JEE Main 2021 Changes & Mock Test

IIT JEE is a national level engineering entrance exam consisting of two stages – JEE Main & JEE Advanced. JEE Main is a screening exam to select the candidates who will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced which is the final hurdle for students to get admission into the prestigious IITs.

A Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted once a year to select candidates for the 4-year B.Tech, B.Pharm courses or the 5-year B.Arch, Integrated M.Sc. or M.Tech courses.

Pattern of the IIT JEE Main and Advanced

JEE Main is an entry-level exam with a lower level of difficulty. It comprises two papers.

Paper 1 : Conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and other prestigious institutions. It is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admissions to IITs.

Paper 2 :  Conducted for admission to B. Arch. and B. Planning courses.

At present, the IIT JEE is a single – stage objective type examination consisting of two papers of three hours duration each to test comprehension & analytical ability of candidates. Both papers, Paper-1 and Paper-2 will each have three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.

All questions will be of Objective Type, designed to test aptitude, comprehension and analytical ability of the candidates.

JEE Main Exam Sessions

The JEE (Main) is being conducted in multiple Sessions (February/March/April/May 2021) for admissions in the next academic session. The candidates will thus benefit in the following ways:

  1. This will give multiple opportunities to the candidates to improve their scores in the examination if they fail to give their best in the first attempt without wasting their whole academic year.
  2. In the first attempt, the students will get a first-hand experience of taking an examination and will know their mistakes which they can improve while attempting for the next time.
  3. This will reduce the chances of dropping a year and droppers would not have to waste a full year.
  4. If anyone missed the examination due to reasons beyond control, then he/she will not have to wait for one full year.

Note:  The student’s best of the 2021 NTA Scores will be considered for preparation of Merit List/ Ranking.

The JEE Main 2021 May session was scheduled on 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 May 2021. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the postponement of the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) May session due to the present situation of Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

As May 2021 exams have been postponed, please check our Testbee Exam Calendar for next available dates.  We shall update as soon as NTA makes its announcement.

Changes in JEE Main

The National Testing Agency will not reduce JEE Main 2021 syllabus.

However, since JEE Main syllabus consists of topics from class 11th and 12th and several topics have been reduced from CBSE syllabus for the academic year 2020-21, the authorities have introduced changes in “JEE Main 2021 exam pattern”.

The NTA has decided to provide choice in Numerical value questions (as per the JEE Main new exam pattern) to rationalize the decision of different Boards across the country regarding the reduction of syllabus.

The new changes in JEE Main exam pattern.

  • Each Subject will have two sections.
    • Section A will have Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) [20 questions]
    • Section B will have Questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value [10 questions]
  • In Section B, candidates have to attempt any 5 questions out of 10. There will be no negative marking for Section B

Notes for Multiple Choice Questions: To answer a question, the candidates need to choose one option corresponding to the correct option. If more than one option is found to be correct then the multiple correct options will be given the four marks (+4). Any incorrect option marked will be given the minus one mark (-1). Unanswered/Marked for review will be given no marks. In case, a question is dropped/ignored, all candidates will be given four marks (+4) irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

As regards change in syllabus, we would ask you to focus on the full syllabus that you have been taught and not try any short-cuts. This will mean you will have some “choices” while attempting questions in Section B of JEE Main paper. However, you have to be master in your areas of strengths so that you can cover up your weaknesses on any of the topics you are not well-versed with.
